Hey guys, Corey Mast here. Today I’m going
to be showing you how to play Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. This one starts off with a really short intro.
The song is in 12/8 and key of C major. So the intro has 2 chords. It starts off with
C. The bass is playing a C Then it goes to a G major chord. That’s it. Let me put it together. The timing is ///Counts to 12/// on the 12th beat you press the D Ok, I’ll split the verse up into 2 4 bar phrases. Here’s the 1st half. It starts on C major Then it goes to A minor. That’s the 1st measure. Back to C….A minor….So it does it twice. Ok next measure We’re going to F major then G major then C.
Like the intro with a different bass part. Let me go over that measure. Ok, so I’ll put that together. Ok, for the 2nd group of 4 I’m going to do
it in 2 measure phrases. So the first 2 we have C major to F to G then
to A minor. Now back to F…One more time… Ok for the last two it goes to G, E major,
A minor. Those last 3 notes just lead it into the chorus. Ok let me put the entire verse together.
chorus is 4 measures then it has a measure that’s like the intro. It starts off with F
then goes to A minor Back to F Then C G Here’s that intro measure Then it repeats the verse. One more time. Here’s the chorus…
verse again. When you run out of verses you go to the end
of the song. The end of the song is just an 8 bar chorus
followed by a 4 bar chorus that repeats for as long as you want it to I’ll play it from the chorus and then I’ll
take the final ending It just repeats the chorus over and over until
you’re ready to end it.
C Alright, so it’s intro verse chorus then verse
and when you’re out of verses you play the chorus as long as you want. Then just end
it on a C chord THat’s how to play Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. You can pick up the sheet music I used at
